Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Officers state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then located multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the fluid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in association with the event," they stated.
City officials stated they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for details.
An important political figure stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
